Research into cross-cultural management at Rutgers

The globalization and international integration of organizations is largely taken for granted today. As a result, employees increasingly have to interact, manage, and work together with employees from other countries, whose values and beliefs are different from their own. Most of our understanding of groups and teams functioning, however, is based on research and theories grounded in Western countries. This poses two important questions: (1) Do our theories apply abroad? (2) How do our theories apply, if at all, in multicultural settings? A major goal of research in this field at Rutgers is to identify, integrate and build upon current research in national culture that occurs within and between groups and teams. The research team at Rutgers is an integral part of the Department of Management and Global Business, and is led by Chao Chen and Ya-Ru Chen.
